How do you get moles in places that never see the sun?

My boyfriend has a mole on his ball sack, or scrotum... He never lets his privates see the sunlight. When I was younger I had a mole on my outter labia that has never seen the sun either. I had it removed by the dermatologist but it wasn't cancerous. so I guess I'm wondering how do we get a single mole in a place that never gets sun??

I want him to see the dermatologist to check it out because to me it looks a bit suspicious. I don't know if it can be pre-cancerous if it's never seen the sun, but then again, can it?

Can moles develop without sunlight? Should this mole be checked out? It's really dark brown, verrrrry slightly raised, irregular shaped. How do I get him to let the dermatologist check it out? he's embarrassed about these kinds of things. Thanks.

It doesn't matter if the skin is exposed to the sun--I think (going off of a year of college biology here) that moles are result of a virus (that like 90% of the population carries).

I would get it checked out--yes, it's embarassing, but worth it if he really did have cancer (odds are so, so good that he doesn't) and caught it early.
Reply:I have a freckle on my left bum cheek :}
Reply:It's usually hereditary - but I don't recommend examining his family tree too closely in this instance. Have any mole checked that bleeds, itches, or changes size and/or shape. Have a healthy and happy new year!
